PBCOM Moves is a campaign launched by PBCOM employees to help rehabilitate communities devastated by the Category 6 typhoon Yolanda.

Since November 2013, PBCOM Moves has steadily grown its funds through the generous contributions of employees, private individuals, and other stakeholders.

The first disbursement of the fund was to the Ormoc Sugarcane Planters’ Association (OSPA), a non-stock, non-profit organization in Eastern Visayas that provides medical attention and educational training to sugarcane farmers. PBCOM Moves donated P200,000 to rebuild the OSPA Center, which was severely damaged by Yolanda.

To help deploy the rest of its funds to communities that need it most, PBCOM Moves partnered with Pinoy Relief, a New York-based organization that is represented locally by Philippine Business for Social Progress.

PBCOM presented a check for more than P2.9 million to Pinoy Relief early this year. The donation has gone towards funding materials to complete and rehabilitate 100 fishing boats destroyed by Yolanda in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

PBCOM was also one of the sponsors of the Pinoy Relief Benefit Concert held March 11, 2014 in New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Jennifer Hudson, Charice Pempengco and Jessica Sanchez were among the acts. Funds from ticket sales went towards the Pinoy Relief Fund, which focuses on building fishing boats, rebuilding classrooms, and improving the livelihood of those in Guiuan affected by the typhoon.

The Bank chose to partner with Pinoy Relief because of its credibility and long-term approach to rehabilitation. The new boats will not only help provide fishermen with an income, it will also allow them to feed their families and other community members for years to home.
