Last July 21-22, 2004, PBCom?s very own FVP and Compliance Officer Mr. Dante T. Fuentes who is likewise an officer of BAIPhil and ABCOMP, lent his expertise to the Batangue?os for the Basic Course for Compliance Officers Seminar held at the YTMI Realty, Special Economic Zone, Brgy. Makiling, Calamba City. The training was made possible through the joint collaboration of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP), the Federation of Batangas Rural Bankers (FBRB), the Rural Bankers Research and Development Foundation, Inc. (RBRDFI), the Association of Bank Compliance Officers of the Philippines (ABCOMP) and the Bankers Institute of the Philippines (BAIPhil).
The FBRB is the first federation to host this training through the leadership of its President, Atty. Francis S. Ganzon. The federation was able to organize 40 participants from 26 rural banks in Batangas.
The course covered a wide range of topics, mainly on Compliance Rules and Regulations, Structure and Processes, Corporate Governance, that are essential in the institutionalization of a bank compliance system and in empowering the bank Compliance Officer perform his/her duties and responsibilities.
Realizing the critical role of Compliance Officers in the bank, the participants decided to help each other in carrying out their respective responsibilities. Hence, they organized the Batangas Association of Compliance Officers for Rural Banks. The Association hopes to be the venue for information sharing and benchmarking the practices of banks towards the formulation of a more efficient and effective system of compliance.
